self-reflective essay-ME!!!!!!!

As a writer, I do not consider myself a successful/good writer; I have nothing to be proud of my writing. I am proud of what I have done and my efforts because I put one hundred percent of effort into my assignments. I don’t think I am the best one in this English class, but I think I am one of greatest efforts because I know the success lies upon my effort. I have a lot of grammar mistakes in my writing assignments, which I have to admit. So I try to change this situation, and I spend all of my studied time to study English. I improve my writing skill by writing a lot of essay. I think I do a better job at the free-writing assignments than the assigned topic ones because it is easier. I don’t need to spend much time to search the information about my topic; I can write whatever I want. To become a good writer, I must have the right attitude. So that it can become my learning advantage I write every writing assignment by my heart; I enjoy every writing assignment. I do not want to lose any chance to practice my English writing.

My attitude of writing has changed that is a positive aspect. There are a lot of writing assignments in English 1020. This is my idea before, which the weekly assignments just count one point, and I think it is not really important. Finally I find out it is really helpful; it is a best way to improve/practice my writing skill. I put away those foolish ideas and become serious. Also I like to use the blog to post my writing assignment because it becomes an advantage in the English 1020 class. To read every classmate’s essay and make common on the personal essay; I can get more ideas from different writing style of essay, which have become the public resource. It will help me a lot for my writing. So I spend more time to read the essays of English 1020 blog; I make the common in the essay after I read. So I know what is going on in the essay and how the writer organizes this essay. As Confucius’ advice say: “choose a job you like and you will never have to work a day in your life.” I know to improve English skill and change my attitude of writing is my job.

In my processes for my writing, I have to focus on the purpose of my writing, and definite my central theme. For example, I have to point out the argument of the Rhetorical analysis essay before I analyze my argument. The author’s argument is that Coke Soda and Pepsi Soda taste is not all that different not a big deal. The writing processes are divided into five steps. First, I determine a topic of essay. Second, I find the information about the topic as much as I can. Third, I list clear ideas of the essay. Fourth, follow the ideas I list to write the essay. Firth, I have to have a strong conclusion. Also I have to make a stronger connection between two paragraphs; the readers can follow my ideas. My thinking would become clearer and uncertainties by follow those processes. I think this is the level of writing a raise! I think it is very important to conference with my teacher because I can get detail information about my writing assignment. Let the teacher read my essay and make the common in the essay before I post; I know which part I need work on. I have time to make the essay ever better.

To determined “good writing.” There are a clear topic, a focal point, strong connections, clear ideas, correct grammar, words use, and a strong conclusion. A clear topic is the dominant and soul of the essay. The focal point is an interesting part of this essay because it is easy to grab the audiences’ attention; it supports the topic of essay. The clear ideas are very important because the readers can follow your ideas easily. A strong conclusion can conclude all of ideas that you want to tell the reader. I have no idea to evaluate my own writing and that of others because my writing is too bad and I am in the lowest English level. In my own writing I don’t use present and past, grammar and vocabulary well; also I can’t completely understand the teacher’s requirement.

I apply my knowledge about writing to situations outside the UC-D composition classroom well. For example, I use my writing knowledge to write my chemistry lab report, and I help my mother write the letters to the government department. That is why I like this class so much. Here, I need to thank Joshua again. He is a very good and nice teacher; he uses his knowledge to teach me and improve my English writing skill.

Rhetorical Aalysis- The coke side of life

The Coke side of life is a great, funny, and interesting advertisement. It is a parody of coke advertisement and is created by Director Justin Pearson. The author’s argument is that Coke soda and Pepsi soda taste is not all that different not a big deal. Author uses satirical approach exaggerated emotional appeals to get audiences to laugh, to feel humor & to question the way that soda advertisement are produced.

The text massage of this advertisement represents the creator’s purpose, which makes fun for audiences. It uses rhetorical appeals in combinations that produce an overarching effect such as irony and humor; this forms of humor are basically appeal to pathos because they put the audience in the right emotional state to be receptive to the argument; also they can involve reasoning or the use of the writer’s authority to sway the audience. This advertisement uses narration, definition, comparison-contrast, example & illustration, description strategies, and these strategies are equally effective in the written and visual texts in the advertisement.

A description of the advertisement is about a man, who buy a coke in the store, and the seller takes a can of Pepsi instead of coke and put it in the coke cup for the man. The man drinks the Pepsi soda, and then he goes into a coma and falls down on the floor. His girlfriend kneels down and tries to get help from someone, and then a big man walks in the store and brings a bottle of coke; the patient regains consciousness after he drinks the coke soda.

In the beginning of the advertisement, the creator uses a little bit of playful and sad music. When the big man walks in the store; light shine from his back. He looks like a hero of western movies in this advertisement; the director shoots man from his foot, which makes him look bigger. There is a whistling sound like an old movie in this advertisement. The lady shows a helpless expression, which is a real demonstrative moment. This Pathos expresses an appeal to the emotions. The director attempts to put the audience into a particular emotional state so that the audience will be receptive to and ultimately convinced by the speaker’s message. The director designs to produce an emotional effect on the audience.

The definition of the advertisement is Coke soda is better than Pepsi soda. The comparison-contrast of the ads is that the creator compares the Pepsi soda with the Coke soda, and the creator proves the Coke soda is better than the Pepsi soda for the audiences. The example & illustration of the ads is that the creator shows a very funny and interesting story for the audiences. But it is just an exaggerated uses of pathos Coke advertisement, and these strategies of persuasion successfully move their audience, the creator exaggerates the appeal to emotion for the more dramatic effect. There aren’t any celebrities or a famous place to increase the persuasive relationship to a cultural movement in this advertisement. I think the “Coke VS Pepsi Taste Test” can increase the persuasive of this advertisement relationship to a cultural movement.

The parody has long been recognized as an effective rhetorical strategy for making a powerful argument. The argument is based on ethical principles. The ethos works as a rhetorical strategy by establishing the goodwill or credibility of the speaker. In the TV show “Coca VS Pepsi taste test;” I hear that Pepsi won a taste test. So did Coca. How can this be? Coca tastes better than Pepsi, and Pepsi tastes better than Coke. What this shows, which we already knew, is that there is not much difference between Coca and Pepsi. Some people prefer Coke, some prefer Pepsi. Most people do not have a preference. But, I am mystified. Why do they even conduct taste tests? Do people really decide on what they drink based on other people's preferences? Don't they try both, and then decide for themselves? Or are people really sheep who will follow other sheep? That must be it. By the way, they are probably cheating on those taste tests. They probably report only favorable taste tests, and throw out the unfavorable ones. In the advertisement the director just wants to make some funny to the audiences. The ethos expresses an appeal to character. In the general, coke or Pepsi taste the same, and it is hard to tell them. The creator states emotional statement that relies on the character of the speaker to be believed; the strong line of reasoning employs by a speaker to build authority. The rhetorical appeal of the logos is used because we know the Pepsi can’t make people death; maybe we can say it is just a silly advisement. From the advisement we can see the man does not swallow the Pepsi; he just spouts the Pepsi out from his mouth. It just likes a “soap opera;” using the pathos appeal to generate a certain feeling in the audience.

This advisement uses all three of the rhetorical appeals to support the author’s argument. The showing that the tasting of one soda over the other one; it is not really a matter of life & death. It just like a “soap opera” satirical approach really cause audiences to reconsider what it feels like to drink either coca or Pepsi. The humor is included in this commercial, and it just wants to make for an enjoyable experience for all the audiences. Let the audience know that this is not a commercial advertisement; it provides universal entertainment.

Final weekly free writing- the UCD Fee

The student’s problem on UCD campus is high fees for parking, food, and vending machines. I tried to find a solution to this problem by interviewing fifty students.
On the average, they spent about fifteen dollars a day; they spent about three dollars and fifty cent for parking; eight dollars for food, and a few dollars is for drink or snacks from vending machines.

They had to find a part-time job for money, because the UCD students could not get the money from their parents. The grade was going down, because they spent more time on the job than the studying, ten percent of students drop a part of classes to make sure they do not fail the course. The shows affected the studying so much.

The UCD students spent about three dollars and fifty cents for parking. I think it is too expensive for students. The best solution is not work in part-time to make the money. The UCD students can’t do that; because it will affect their studying. So, I think the school needs to abate the price of the parking fee, and imitate the parking polices of high school and get a permit for parking. The other solution is for the government to add more grants to cover the fee for poor students, or get the poor students a special permit for cheaper parking or free parking.

The price of food in the campus is much higher than the price of a high school. The UCD students have to pay over one dollar more for food. The cause of the higher prices is a lack of competition as well as high rental for the business. I think the UCD campus needs to abate the rental for the business for restaurants, and then bring more restaurants. To increase the competition is among the restaurants, the restaurants make the food price lower. Also, the school can get the restaurants some preferential rights and consult with the restaurants, and try to get the patronage, or set up a foundation to provide money for poor students. The UCD campus can make a policy for poor students to get free food, which are the poor students help the restaurants to clear the table and floor.

The drink or snacks from vending machine is little higher than a high school, the UCD students had to pay more than twenty five or fifty cents for each snacks or drink. I think the UCD campus needs to compare with high schools, make a same price with high school. The UCD campus compares different vending machines companies, bring the cheaper vending machines companies in. school can get fee from those companies to help the poor students.

The UCD campus can organize a charitable entertainment every week in our city center, collect contribution to help our school to abate the school fee. If we can solve these problems, I think the UCD students will have a better situation; they will not worry the school fee again, and study well without the pressure.

Final weekly free writing- My Engl1020

This is my first year in the UCD, and I was enjoying with the English 1020 classmates. I think this is an interesting and helpful class. I have learned much more English knowledge; I capitalized on every chance we get to improve our English. My English gave us much chance to improve our writing skill by the weekly writing assignment. I liked those writing assignment because it was not very hard for me to write and it was very helpful too. But I though the weekly writing assignment was too long for me; I had to write 500 words for each essay before the midterm. But the teacher timely detection of the problem, and he changed his original request. So I just needed to write 250 words for each essay. I though it is a great change; It saved my time and it was much easier. Sometime I like the free writing essay because I can write whatever I want; I did not any plan to improve my English writing skill, and I think the free writing can help me a little bit. I like the Entry writing because it is easy and interesting; I can practice my writing in class.

We had a very nice and knowledgeable teacher, who is Joshus, Ware. So I had to admit that he is a very intelligent person, because he worked out the framework for teaching students of great help. But I think he needed give me more extra credit writing assignment because his class was hard for a Chinese student. Any way this is a great semester, and I like it so much.

Freewriting-Kung Fu Hustle

Director Stephen Chow got great success and immense gratification from Kung Fu Hustle. It was the best movie in 2004, and it brought much glory and applause to Chow. It gave a fresh impetus to the movie business of Hong Kong. Kung Fu Hustle combines action and comedy ingeniously, and they were showed by actors’ action and dialogue. Chow’s work showed the perfect union of craftsmanship and imagination, and he used the Chinese style musical instrument to combine with dance, and used the advanced computer techniques to make this movie become more vivid. This movie worked well in highly improbable plot situations, exaggerated characters, and often slapstick elements were used for humorous effect.

Chow was director and chief actor in this movie, and the production of this movie cost twenty million U.S dollars. Many famous actors performed in this movie. Action super star Jeff Lee impersonate a fire demon, Daniel Yuan and Kelly lee impersonated the owner of a stockaded village, new star Elizabeth Lien impersonated a candy seller, and Jack Yuan and Daren Long impersonated hired thugs. They conquered the hearts of their audience by their excellent acting. This was a successful production by Chinese and Hong Kong actors. There was an important breakthrough that the style of Kung Fu Hustle was different from departed Chows films.

In the beginning of the movie, they combined traditional music with Chinese dance by the hatchet underworld gang. I t seemed to be comical and original. They used diverse Chinese style musical instruments, which represented Chinese classic music art. The Chinese zither was transformed into a powerful weapon. When the people played the musical notations, they became one by one peerless combatants, and they could kill a person without blood.

The computer techniques were used to embellish action and background results in excellent vision and hearing effect. For the background they used a representation of Shang Hai in the 30’s and 40’s. The background collocation conformed to the requirement of Kung Fu Hustle style. The dialogue was exaggerated unduly, comical and interesting, but did not depart from real life. There were some defects contained in the movie, and the chief defect was that they did not use detail in some plots to show the character’s characteristic, facial expression, dialogue and action.Kung Fu Hustle was a great contribution to the movies of Hong Kong, which brought the movie business of Hong Kong to a new level. it was a great revolution.

Extra Credit -Daniel Alarcon(04/04/07)

This was my fifth time Copper Nickel reading meeting, on Wednesday, April 04, at 7 pm in the Recital Hall of the King Center of UCD. It was a great night for us, and Copper Nickel presented novelist and short-story writer Daniel Alarcon. When I was there, he was telling with other people. We could buy Daniel Alarcon’s new books, Lost City Radio and Wait By Candlelight outside the Recital Hall. Daniel was a famous writer, which I heart from my friend Fu Wang. I took over look the menu of the Lost City Radio, this book was very similar with Radio On The War, which I had read in China, but Radio On The War was telling the Chinese war, the Chinese soldiers fight against the Japanese soldier in the bad situation. It represented the Chinese soldiers’ bravery and selflessness.

There were about one hundred of audiences attend this reading meeting that I never saw before. First a lady introduced Mr. Alarcon, and then a bared-headed man made some jokes to the audiences. The opening was interesting and solemn. Mr. Alarcon introduced the story before he read, and he just picked two best sections for audiences. The first section is Norma and War; and Mr. Alarcon had a strong powerful sound in the interesting part-the soldier punched the young man’s face, before he got in the bus. This story described the life of soldiers and Norma in the war, and the soldier’s psychological activity in the war. I liked this story so much. Especially Mr. Alarcon’s reading style was so helpful for me, and I understood and followed the story well. He made the sound clear, and read the story by his heart. I could not listen to the second section’s title, but it was that describe the soldier’s life.

I compare Alarcon’s reading meeting with Danielle Dutton & Stephanie Young’s reading meeting. I found out Alarcon’s reading meeting was more interesting and helpful for me. Danielle Dutton & Stephanie Young’s reading meeting was not really interesting and too short, but I could learned more knowledge in the meeting. Any way, these two meeting were very good, and I hoped the students can attend this kind meeting. It will open your mind.

How to praise Alarcon’s success? I though I need to borrow Edward P. Jones’s praise, who is author of the Pulitzer Prize winner. "Daniel Alarcon’s stories are one of the reasons we go to storytellers — they present worlds we have only imagined or heard about in less truthful and poetic ways. And Mr. Alarcon, like the best storytellers, reveals to us that the world we have secreted in our hearts spins in a bigger universe with other hearts just as good and just as bad as our own. Long before you come to the poignant words, "I come see you, but instead meet your absence," you will know what I mean." After I read the Alarcon, I have become a fan of his.

Extra cridit-night reading meeting(04/02)

The Denver Mint Reading Series is presented by Copper Nickel, CU-Denver Live!, and the UCDHSC Writing Center, with support from the UCDHSC Department of English as a means of circulating to the local, regional, and national community American literature's new coins. I think it was a nice time to listen this poem reading at 8 PM on Monday night in room 440 of the Tivoli Student Union on the Auraria Higher Education Center, but I did not think this was a good reading poem for us because I could not understand as well, and Danielle Dutton read too fast, Stephanie Young read in a low voice. First Joshua introduced the readers Danielle and Stephanie to the audiences. Joshua tried to make some Jokes to the audiences, but I thought their jokes were not funny because the audiences were not laughing. Any way I thought Joshua has done his best, and his speech could win the applause of the audiences. The best job he did that he introduced the reading information for audiences, and we had time to prepare this reading and we knew what is going on. We knew what we need to write down.

The first reader is Danielle Dutton, who teaches fiction writing at Naropa University in Boulder. First Dutton read the poem “20 century pastoral”, but I was not sure this title is right or wrong because she read too fast. From the context we know this poem describe the nice pastoral life. The second poem is “Jane-fast and yet on to the point”, and it was a funny poem. Below is my suggestion for Dutton: I thought she can read the poem slowly by her heart that the audience can understand well. I thought she can introduce the poem to the audience before her reading, which can make her reading better. My reflection on her reading is that her reading is little boring because she did not read the poem by her hear. I thought she need make a strong sound and read it slowly on the important part or interesting part. Her reading style was easy to confuse her audiences, however, I thought some audiences would like her reading.

The second reader was Stephanie Young, and she was last reader in this reading meeting, whose book of poem is Telling The Future Off. The interesting was that her reading style was completely different with Danielle’s reading style. She read the poem “come on gray, but here stand up”, and this poem ideal was from china. She read the poem very slowly, but I did not really like this poem because there were many repetitions in this poem. May be it was a new writing style in America, but it was not a new writing style in China because this style was use in the Chinese old poem. Any way it was a good poem.

Health Child ??

This advertisement is about a McDonald child sitting on the floor, and he can’t stand because he is too fat. The rhetorical strategies are example and illustration, cause and effect, description, and definition, and they are used in this advertisement. The example is used here to show the unhealthy food make your body fat. There are French fires on the baby’s head; as we know the French fires include much fat and energy, and it will attack our health. Cause and effect tell us the McDonald food is unhealthy for our body, specifically French fries, and it will make your body even fat until your health has problem. The cause that if we eat more McDonald food, and we will have more fat stay in our body. The effect that fat will become health problem to hurt our body day by day. The description, it describes a very fat child wear French fires hat and towel sitting on the floor, and there is a big “M” on the towel. The big “M” represents the McDonald food. The child is too fat that is why he can’t stand, and it is an unhealthy represent. The definition, this advertisement to definite the McDonald food is unhealthy; it will bring the health problem for our body and make our body fat.

In this advertisement, the creator employs the physical appeal to show us what unhealthy food is. The creator employs a special example to create a social/cultural commentary. As we know the McDonald is popular worldwide, and the creator is easy to employs it to send out the message. The advertisement mercilessly lampooned world-famous brand, and the great irony is that the famous food doesn’t equal to health food.

Sex Appeal- Kelvin Klein Underwear

This picture advertisement is for Kelvin Klein underwear. We need to focus on the woman on the man’s back, and the man is enjoying with woman. It shows a lot of wild sex appeal, I think the man wants to do something else with the woman. The sex appeal is showed by the woman’s leg and her eyes, the man’s underwear and his muscle. The woman’s smooth slender leg is easy to grab the audiences’ attention, and her sex eyes show out a lot of sex appeal. The man’s sinewy muscle and sex underwear will give the attention much fantasy. Also the sex appeal is show by the man is intoxicated by woman’s sex body.

I think this advertising is the most effective method of promotion, because when the audiences see this picture they will have much fantasy. If the audience is male they will buy one or more for their girlfriend or wife; if the audience is female they will buy one or more for their boyfriend or husband. So I think this underwear advertisement is effective. Also I think this advertisement is Appropriate, because it takes advantage of woman and man as model to show the sex underwear, and this advertisement shows the human original wild sex. This advertisement doesn’t employ any of the exaggerated uses of pathos mentioned in the second chapter of Envision. Underwear and preface body make people feel sexy sometimes, so the advertisement use sex appeal advertising underwear does not demonstrate false, and it is an appropriate sex appeal advertisement. This is a great sex appeal underwear advertisement, and I believe this product will sell very well for young man and woman.

Analysis Essay: An Angle???

This was a black and white picture. The sun shined in the front the woman; it made the picture shine. Two sides of picture were shiner than the middle, and the top of picture was dark than the bottom, which made the picture more visual. A tone or value was halfway between a highlight and a dark shadow. The creator took the picture from shine to dark to demonstrate the laws of perspective. The wings of the woman were not real, and it was draw by the creator. Because we could see clearly art from the woman’s left wing, which was on the wall behind the woman; also we could see the shadow on the floor, which not match with the woman’s wings. The shadow was the tree’s shadow. The black wings tone in beautifully with the picture.


The size of picture was too small, because I could not see more detail about this picture. But it was ok, and we can see what happen here. The characters were not real clearly, and we could not see their expression as well. But the characters made the picture real and visual. I could see the child was putting his hand in the mouth and the woman was taking bag. There was a robber shadow on the right side of picture, and it was not a real one. It was drawn by the creator too. The choice material was not clear at all. When the creator drew the wings, the creator needed to make sure to pain the whole wings light black. Not like the picture show us, I think it would be more absorbing.


The argument of this picture was the wings of woman were not real. The persuasive statement of the picture that the woman was waits for some one or buy, and she will go to somewhere. The message of picture that it was changed by the creator, the alteration made the picture more visual.

Reflective picture- salvery????????

The picture was about the white people and their black servant by Rosalind Solomon. Form my observation of the stuff in the white and black picture. I found out this picture was about 70th or 80th. I could not believe my eyes. The servant looked like slavery and she had to kneel down on side of her owner. I felt the world was not fair, I thought she needs to find her freedom. But I knew chains were a badge of slavery and slavery was the antithesis of freedom. The black woman had completely lost her dignity. She lost her freedom, and she was inferior in the society. I felt humiliated by the white woman and her daughter was smiting. How could they do that??? We should not have racial discrimination. I was strongly opposed to racial discrimination. As I knew the racial discrimination issue was a political hot potato. I thought the government needs to make a law to discourage racial prejudice. This problem could not solve by one day or two. The road to the conquest of racial discrimination was long and full of the pitfall. In 21 century if we let this tragedy happen again, I thought we can kill ourselves.
I felt so happy in the life of today. I could not guess destiny, because the destiny was sometime cruel. If she did not want to be a puppet of fate; I thought she shaken off the shackles of some conventions, and did not believe that the fates preside over human destiny. Everyone was the architect of her own fortune.

Observation Picture- Street Performance

Street Performance

This was an old white and black picture, and this picture was about Street Show. There were many stores on the street, but in this picture we just saw the Tribune and Shirt stores. There two person was walking in the Shirt Shops. There were many car parked in the front of stores. In the front of Shirt Shop a black man was doing headstand performance; he wore white shirt and black trousers, and there was white besmirch on his buttocks. The bottom of leather shoes upward, and his trousers had wrinkled. He bent his legs to balance his body, and his hands supported his body too. His big head was with short hair, which he was easy to balance his body.
The crowd was around him, who wore nice suit. They enjoyed this black man’s performance, and they did not talk to each other. The white man put his hands in the pocket and watched the show seriously; he wore black over coat, who was in the left hand side. The guy was laughing, who wore gray white suit; he put one hand into his pocket and one hand was clipping cigarette. The third white was putting his hand in his heart, and watched the show. The middle man was blocked by the performer. I couldn’t see what he was doing. Three of them wore hat, and stood on the right hand side. They did not give any money to the black man; they just stood there watch the show seriously. There were not car past this street; it was so quite there.

Reflective Essay─ American idol

American Idol is an American singing competition that began its first series in June 2002. Part of the popular Idol series, American idol originated from the UK show, Pop Idol, a singing contest to determine the best singer in the UK. American Idol has become arguably the most highly publicized music competition in the country. The first season winner was Kelly Clarkson.

I have only recently started to watch American Idol. This year is American Idol’s sixth season, and it began on Tuesday, January 16, 2007. The premiere episode of the season drew a massive audience of 37.7 million viewers, peaking in the last half hour with more than 41 million viewers. The format features three celebrity judges who critique the performance of the contestants in order to facilitate the public voting. I was confusing how the spectator to vote their favorite singers does. The judges critique the performance, and then the spectator can vote their favorite singers by using cell phone or internet. The singer who has more voting she/ he will win this competition. I think it is so fair because the public voting do not include personal prejudice. In order to succeed American Idol competition they will need to overcome their prejudices. I think that is why American is so successful in America. The judges currently are: record producer and legendary bass player Randy Jackson, former pop star Paula Abdul, and producer and manager Simon Cowell. Ryan Seacrest is a host of American Idol, and has gained prominence as the host of the reality-television talent-search series American Idol.

This is my first time watching American Idol TV show; and it is making me strong impression, which is still in my mind. American Idol headed into the next and most exciting phase Monday night, March 5, 2007 as the Top 12 finalists were revealed! They were Melinda Doolittle, Stephanie Edwards, Gina Glocksen, LaKisha Jones, Blake Lewis, Sanjaya Malakar, Chris Richardson, Brandon Rogers, Haley Scarnato, Chris Sligh, Jordin Sparks, and Phil Stacey. The American Idol is singing competition gives these contestants a very good opportunity to become celebrities; they want super start celebrity status. The twelve performers have twelve different kinds of singing styles they’ve made the most common songs sound powerful and pleasant. The performers really entertain audiences with their singing. Every singer tried to do their best on this show, and they practice their singing skills after every show; also they went to their teacher’s house to get some suggestions about what kinds of songs would be better for them to sing. In American Idol competition I notice the competition is cruel and realistic, and I can’t change this game’s regulations. Every performer has to comply with these regulations, which is survival of the fittest. I think the rules are strict but fair, because everyone has a chance to win. I think it is the same as my study; I will fail if I don’t work hard. Maybe I will success if I work hard. I will quote a proverb that is Failure is the mother of success.

Chris Richardson, who looks just like Justin Timberlake and gives me a very strong impression. I liked his singing style, and he sang songs with his heart. He did a very good at following music and his actions were also perfect. He had brilliant performance on Monday that was why he could enter the top 12. He is endowed with a gift in music by nature, but his success comes through practice and under his parents’ support. I think I can compare the contestant’s lifts with my life. Richardson’s care gives me a lot of inspirations; Success lies not so much as in luck as in hard work. I think he worked hard because he wanted to success, and I try to study all night long now to make my grade better. Many people ascribe their success to good luck. I think Success lies not so much as in luck as in hard work. It is the door to success in our study.

The American Idol judge, Simon Cowell is notorious for his unsparingly blunt and often controversial criticism of the contestants. He is so mean to the contestants, that his criticism is a bitterness of speech. I think that will hurt some contestants and give them big pressure, which will make them lack in confidence. I think Cowell needs to give more encouraging words to the contestants, which can help them to face their life positively because they to make themselves better instead of sadder. Maybe sometimes I agree with his thoughts, and it can stimulate a contestant through anger to the fineness of his/her singing. But, in contrast, Judge Randy and Paula were so nice to the contestants. They gave a lot of encouragement to contestants; therefore the performers had a very good performance with a good mood. I think praise always stimulates them to make greater efforts because the singer will sing hard in the competition. The emcee of American Idol show Ryan Seacrest was a very funny and smart guy. He made the show more interesting and visual. His amusing performance caused a roar of laughter in the spectators. He worked in conjugation with contestants and made jokes with them. For example, a singer (Kim) took off his shoes to sing the song, and then Seacrest also took off his shoes to interview him. Seacrest praised his singing style as fresh and new. It can remove all their anxieties and nervousness.

I liked American Idol show because it was so fun and interesting. Every singer had to pass quarter-final to enter final; the spectators were so nervous and worried about their favorite singers’ result. I compared American Idol show with the Chinese Idol show, and I found difference and similarities between two shows. The differences in the Chinese idol show is performers are Chinese but they come from different countries; the judges of Chinese Idol show number more than American Idol; the song choices are not only Chinese, they have the other country’s song; the emcee of Chinese Idol was less fun and interesting. The similarities that there were a lot of people joining the show, and a lot of the spectators watched the show. I think the different culture makes the Chinese Idol show different from the American Idol show. Chinese Idol is more conservative than American Idol; I mean the Chinese Idol just a race and less interesting, and I couldn’t see any new element in the show. Also I couldn’t see an emcee or a judge play with performers and make something fun with them. I think the American Idol competition is fairer than the Chinese Idol, because the American Idol winner is voted by the public and the Chinese Idol winner is voted by the judges.

American Idol gives me a lot of fun, and I could see much competition. It gives me enlightenment that if you don’t want to be eliminated, you have to work hard.

Freewriting- My chinese New Year in America

Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the New Year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade. Also the Chinese people play the lion dance in a parade, and every family fire the firecracker to celebrate the New Year. At night the family will give children money as lunar New Year gift. The New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving. The celebration was traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honor of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the household and the family ancestors.

This was my second Chinese New Year in the America. I spent all day long with my family, and we went to my uncle’s party at night. There were a lot of food in this New Year party, and several foods are consumed to usher in wealth, happiness, and good fortune. Several of the Chinese food names are homophones for words that also mean good things; they would bring good luck for my family. At night my family gave me money as lunar New Year gift, and I sang a New Year for my family. Every one enjoyed in this new Chinese New year party, and the climax of the celebration was a firework display. My father lighted a firework, and it exploded in a shower of sparks. The fire lit up everybody’s face, and my little cousin applauded for this amazing firework. I can see every one’s gladness in their eyes. After the firework show, we went to sing songs in my uncle’s house. My uncles and their friend played Pai Gow after the New Year party, which is a kind of Chinese poker. I think it was a happiest day for them in American because they worked in the Chinese restaurant and just had one day together that is Chinese New Year.

The first day of lunar month, my friend with me went to see the Chinese lion dance in the Heaven Dragon. The people played the lion dance in the front of Heaver Dragon, and the crowd applauded after the people had finished their performance. I enjoyed my Chinese New year and lift in America, and I wanted to share my happiness with my family and my friends.

Future of the book

Future of the book
When I visited the blog Future of the book, I was so surprise because this was a very cool and interesting blog. When I clicked A Brooklyn painter working with his hands and a few machines, and my attention was grabbed by the Vidiots on Parade. I t was a caricature, and we could see cartoon walking. It was so funny and matchless.

From the title of the blog we can guess what was this blog talking about? This bog contain two boxes, this left box is about the content of the blog; it included pictures, videos and contexts. The right box included different links, pictures, comments, comments evolved, and the archive, which we can get more information about this blog. On the top of the left box, we could see the other people’s blog. They included a lot of information, which it support the blog Future of the book. The contexts included the writer’s discussions with the other people, and other information for his/her reader. There were a lot of different hyperlinks in the context; the reader could get more information regarding stories topic. Inside the different posts of Future of the book, and we could see there were different tags on the bottom of the posts. When we clicked those hyperlinks we could get some correlated information about this post.

There was a very good organization and much information in this blog; the writer had a clear content and storied guided the reader follow his/her ideas, which we were easy to understand what the writer was talking about. I compared this blog with my own blog, I could found out there were some similarities with my blog, but all over the blog was more different. There were pictures, videos, and hyperlinks contain into my post, which support my story and guided the readers follow my ideas. Those parts were similar with the blog Future of the book. In each post of this blog contained many tags to support his content, but the most different was about the two boxes of this blog; it made this blog strong and visual. In the left box we could found out the older blog, and in my blog we found the older blog on the bottom. The writer combined the big and small word together, which was more visual. The hyperlinks were used in different way in this blog, one was to support the writer’s story; one was to guide you to the other people’s blog.
There were some inadequate aspects in this blog, it was little colorless and monotonous. In the main page is monotonous, which did not have nice and colorful background and did not have nice or interesting pictures. It was so hard to grab the readers’ attention. Some hyperlinks did not mark different color with his text; if the readers did not pay attention, they would miss those hyperlinks. If the writer could attend to my suggestion, this bog would be better.

ON WAR

When I first time saw this picture; it gave me a great impression, which I remembered as long as I live. Everyone wished have a happy and satisfactory life, but who can guarantees? I did not know; I just wanted the war was over now. This was a human tragedy. The old man wore dark blue clothes and the grey-bearded on his face. He found out his granddaughter in a pile of died people, and he holed the little girl in his heart tightly. He looked at his granddaughter with sorrowful expression, and he could not believe he had lost his beloved. The little girl had died. She quietly lied in her grandpa’s heart; her eyes were close, and the blood was all over her body; her hair is so disheveled and dirty. The bomb had truncated her right leg and burned her clothes; the blood dropped from her cutting leg. From the picture we could guess her age about ten year. Why she had died? The little girl was killed in the day time, who could killed the people in the light of the day? I did like to answer.

In side the picture, there were a lot of people lied on the floor without shoes. They were piled together at the side of the light yellow building. Behind the old man; a woman was looking for her family in the pile of died people, who wore dark black clothes. This picture represented what was war, and the mean of the war. At the end I wanted to ask anyone “is the war ever necessary?” please give me an answer.

The second extra credit opportunity- what the beautiful arts

It was a nice night in the Denver Downtown; I went to reading meeting with my good friend Fu Wang. We lost in the downtown that we could not find the building. When we found the Colorado Building, the meeting just had about fifteen minutes left. So we were late for this meeting, and we called the meeting center to ask someone open the door for us. About one minute a disabled opened the door for us; he welcomed us with a smile. When we reached the meeting, I saw the people full the whole meeting. I was so surprise to see Joshua here because he did not show out in the last reading meeting; he sat in second place by right hand side of the last row. He said hello to him and he gave me a smile back; I saw his face was a little red; maybe the old man’s interesting reading had given him energy. It was so quiet in the meeting, the last poem described the mountain and river. Every audience enjoyed in the old man’s lecture/speech, but his interesting reading just have ten minutes left. Ten minutes later, the meeting was over. The audiences left the meeting, but some students were staying there to enjoy the original arts.

Here, I needed to thank Joshua give me an opportunity to get this extra credit for I was late. I stayed with my friend in the museum; we walked around there to enjoy different nice arts. There was big paper-cut art in a small room, and it was similar with Chinese paper-cut, but it was little different. The Chinese paper-cut was about the pictures, propitious words and pattern. This paper-cut was a big circle and there were A in the small circles. This paper-cut named Radiant Anarchy Doily, and it was Black and pink paper. Simon Pariton created in 1998. Pariton had born 1964, England. When I walked the next room, I was so surprise for those exaggerate and interesting sexually action arts. Those pictures were about the women, there were the other sexual arts about men in the other room. Those sexual pictures you were not able to see in China. The detail I do not like told about here. If anyone likes to see the pictures; I will show you in the class. I do not have any cable to upload to computer from my cell phone.

I was so scared when I saw a man lie on the floor, which it was a mixed media robotic man. We could see it moving in the TV, and a lot of people saw it moving. When I walked into a clear and white room, I saw the mixed media installation: wood, bottles, mallet, and water. When I hit the bottles, I could very interesting music. Also in other room I saw a mixed media, when it was charged. It could play music by itself. Above those things did not real grab my attention. I walked into a small white, one big and cool brown car model grabbed my attention. I stayed to look at it about twenty minutes, the maker made it up with thundered part of car. You could see very detail about different parts of the car, which was I never saw before. Any way if you had missed this reading meeting; do not worry you can visit this website to see arts, but you are not able to see the nice car model.

Observational Essay-Success In Person

It was a beautiful day; I went to see my friend who worked in Heaven Dragon Chinese restaurant. This was my first time here, and everything was fresh. I had an interview from Dan Tang, who I never saw before. He left China at eighteen years old and spent time in a refugee camp, then came to the United States. Tang still works at least fourteen hours every day, saving so his three kids can go to college. Tang spent a year in California living off a $221 monthly welfare check, learning English and partially repaying the charity that bought his plane ticket. He then moved to Colorado, where some friends owned a Chinese restaurant. In the next three years, Tang worked for his dream that was to have his own restaurant. Tang’s real journey was in 1985, and he opened Heaven Dragon in a nondescript strip mall off East 120th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. It has since become an institution. President Bush had ordered three times takeout from Tang when he was in Denver town. Now Tang is very modest about his success, he did his best on developing new food, and shared his best food with his customers.

Before I interviewed Tang, I did a long observation on my subject. There were seven mud stoves, two big oil-pans, two big food cabinets, a big bowl washing machine, two tables for cutting vegetables, a hot water stove, a huge refrigerator, and other stuff. It made up a huge kitchen. Tang wore a clean uniform with a white apron in the front. He had a separated hair style, but it was a little bit disheveled, and there were tiny wrinkles on the side of his eyes, and his nose is bigger than normal. When he smiled the deep lines were around his mouth, and a line of white teeth leaked out. If you paid attention to observe him, you would discover he was a little bit humpbacked.

See Tang was teaching his cook how to cook; he requested the cook to control the fire that made the food more delicious. He shook a wok at regular times, the stove fire was roasting his face, and his face turned to red; he perspired all over his face when he stood in the front of the stove. After he went to wash his face and hands, he was going to make food sauce. He put soy into the bucket, and then mixed with the other sauce. He tasted the mixed sauce time and time again until he thought the sauce was perfect. The sauce spattered on his face and clothes, and the black pepper went down his nose and he started to choke. The tears streamed down his face; he took a wet towel to wipe the tears and his face. He mopped the kitchen floor after he finished the food sauce. And then Tang was going to cook the lunch for his works; everyday he tried to make different kinds of food for his workers. In this lunch, he cooked a combination sea of food soup and Chinese style cooked ribs which you could not find on the Heaven Dragon’s menu.

Tang invited me to their lunch, that was great food and so delicious which I had never tasted in other Chinese restaurants. He made jokes during the lunch hour that made the monotonous and boring job interesting. After the fifteen minute lunch hour, he began to develop a new style food. Tang sat in the corner of the kitchen, and tried to make new sauce for his new menu. I just peeped at his action in the side of a corner; he was so serious about doing his job and there was a serious expression on his face. He knitted his brows and scratched the back side of his head, and then he put that sauce into the garbage bucket. Tang called an old cook and asked the old cook about some problems who is about sixty years old and the years have silvered his hair. He was very thin and bony, but he was in high spirits. They were discussing the problems, and they still did not have a complete answer. A fat man walked in the kitchen and joined in their discussion; the guy was about two hundred pounds, but not very tall. I asked my friend who is that, and my friend told me that is Tang’s brother who was managing the second Heaven Dragon in Broomfield. After ten minutes, their discussion had a result. Tang put a new food sauce prescription into a small bucket, and then stirred the mixed sauce by a wood bar. They moistened the new sauce on their fingers and put it into their mouth; Tang moved his tongue in his mouth, and then shook his head. He used new sauce to cook the Happy Family, and then all of the cooks tasted his new sauce. Every cook erected their thumbs, but Tang did not really agree with the other cooks. He said: “the new sauce did not really accord with American taste; it is too light.” He recorded a new sauce prescription in a notebook and put it into the drawer, and then Tang turned around and continued doing his job......

In the end of the interview, I asked Tang one question: “how can you face one bored job for twenty seven years?” Tang’s answer was so simple that he liked this job, and it was his life. I will borrow Confucius’ advice: “choose a job you like and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Fortunately for Dan tang he did.
From this observation and interview, I understood a simple lesson. I need to find my goal and finish it. As you was badly cut up when you failed; you can only succeed if you do your best on your job.

I had attended the reading published meeting with my friend Fu Wang on the Feb 09, Friday, 2007. There were just thirty percent people here, but the meeting contained a lot of interesting story and all the information I needed. I did not see my section’ students here, I think you have missed a good meeting.
In the meeting, the people gave me a sheet is about the Denver mint reading series. Now let me introduce Joshua Poteat to your guys and some information about him. Joshua Poteat’s first book, Ornithologies, won the 2004 Anhinga Poetry Prize, and his chapbook, Meditations, won the Poetry Society of America’s 2004 National Chapbook Award. In the meeting, there were four people read the poem, they are Chris Ransick, Jeff Franklin, Matthew Cooperman and Jeffrey Ethan Lee, Chris Ransick was the first person to read the poems and shared his experience for us, he lived in California and he like the ocean, beach and sky of California. He made jokes when he read about the poem; he said “the boulder football player grabbed the girl’s hair by hand and dragged around the playground.” The next personal Jeff Franklin read the poem “For the lost boys”, the face of book is nice a painting, it draw boys on it. Also Jeff made jokes when he read this story, and he just selected some interesting parts to read.
I like Chris Ransick’s reading, because he was so funny and he shared his experience with us. He combined the story with his own experience, that made the poem so interesting and it was easy to grab my attention. I think the local point of his reading is that combine with his life. I think this meeting was so helpful, it open my mind and give me more ideas for my future writing. We can learn some writing skill in this kind meeting, comparing with my own writing to improve my writing skill, let me know what I need to learn more.

Funny Chinese boys-post 3

I searched this video from Youtube, and I selected it from hungry of funny videos. It gave me a strong impression, so I want to share this funny video with you. Its title is” two Chinese boy-I want it that way + the making of,” this video is describe two Chinese boy making joke in the school dorm, their model is to be cool; they wear the yaoming’s jerseys number 11 of NBA rocket team. The beginning of the video is so amusing and lead up the focal point of the video; it is easy to grab your attention. Also these two Chinese boys worked well together as a team, to bring the best out of the video. I think it is a good way to show out their talent and humorist, share their happiness with everybody.
The content of this video include two Chinese boy imitate the backstreet boy in the school dorm, their action and sing style is so humorous. The video posters add the funny words in the feature at the end of the movie; make the video more funny and interesting. But I think their roommate was not interesting their show, he was just interesting in his internet game (hot blood legend). He was so confusing why my roommates do this stupid thing, and he left the room for a minute.
Any aspects of the video that have not been altered by the person who posted the video, except the feature of the video. The video poster just added some interesting and funny words on it, but they did not change the content of the video. This particular clip you are not able to watch on TV or in the movie theater because this is a real story, or maybe they did not have any chances to show their amusing skill on TV show. The poster did not need to spend a lot of money on it, you only need to take out you camera and record it into your computer, that is so easy, isn’t it. Possibly you have chances to watch this kind video in the school show, but you can get more choices form internet.
The focal point of the video is two funny Chinese boys being a humorous by imitating the backstreet boys singing. They did not care someone say them are stupid guys; they were so enjoyable in their life. It gave us a very good hint that do anything you want to do and do not worry somebody’ thought. They share their happiness for us, make the life easy.
If you are thinking about showing your talent, instead of trying for the TV show and getting refused. Why not consider changing your mind and think of an easy way to show off all your skill by posting your show on the Youtube. In the Youtube world you are completely free, you can find your place here, open your mind maybe one day you will become a celebrity.

Drunken Man- post 4

On Saturday night, I went and played the pool with my friends in the Colorado Pool Ball Center. The pool hall is place for entertainment; you can have beer, play pool and listen to cool music. I saw a middle-aged man and his girlfriend sitting in the bar, they were enjoying beer, they were real happy and enjoining their chatting. After they finished a dozen of beer, the middle-aged man and his girlfriends started to play pool. My friends were so confused why the man used the number 15 color ball as the white ball to hit the other balls. My friends were wondering if that was a new style of playing pool. He is so awesome; he used the back of the pool stick and made two balls into the hole at the same time. My friends said to me we should try that style. I said to my friends “that man is drunk that is why he is playing that way.”

The middle-aged man ordered his third dozen of beer. By the time he finished his second cup of beer, the man became incoherent and overly excited and his face turn red and his eyes also turn a little yellowish red. When he walking to the restroom he fell twice, his girl wanted to support the drunken men, but the man refused to let her help. After five minutes the drunken man finally came out from the restroom, but he was still tripping and falling all over like a drunken man, and his body smelled like alcohol. The drunken man left the pool ball center with his girlfriend supporting him out. Someone else entered the restroom after the drunken man, but the man rushed out of the restroom immediately because of the smell. The guy was yelling “who make put those fucking shit all over the floor in the restroom,” and he cleared the dirty thing on his shoes. We left the Pool Ball Center and headed to the liquor store for some Red Bull, which it is next to the Pool Ball Center. We saw the drunken man’s girlfriend putting him into the car, we told them “you need to take a rest before you drive home.” The lady did not listen to our advice and started driving away…….

Alcohol is bad for our health. But people still drink it as much as they like not considering their health could be in danger. Now I need to tell you a real story about my friend from China who died from drinking too much alcohol. When his family discovered him, his body was lying on the floor, and the body was cold, his pulse and heart stop beating everything was too late.
